About this quiz

Each round shows 10 random flags; pick the matching country from four options. The set covers 120 countries from every continent — from easy ones like Japan and Canada to trickier pairs that look almost identical. Choose a difficulty first: Easy draws from the 50 most recognisable flags, Medium from 100, and All from the full 120. No flag repeats within a round, and your choice is remembered for next time. The flags are drawn as SVG, so they stay sharp on any device.

Frequently asked questions

How many flags are in the quiz?
120 national flags from every continent — 32 from Europe, 30 from Africa, 29 from Asia, 22 from the Americas and 7 from Oceania. Three difficulty levels let you choose the pool: Easy draws from the 50 most widely recognised flags, Medium from 100, and All uses the full 120. Within a round the same flag never repeats, so every one of the 10 questions is a different country.
How can I memorise flags more easily?
Group flags by shared colours or patterns, link a flag to something about the country, and watch out for look-alikes (like Chad and Romania, or Indonesia and Monaco).
Are the flags accurate?
Yes. Every flag is drawn as a scalable SVG image, so it stays sharp on any screen and displays correctly even on devices that don't render flag emoji.
Which country has a flag that isn't rectangular?
Nepal — its flag is two stacked triangles, the only non-rectangular national flag in the world. Switzerland and Vatican City are the other odd ones out: their flags are square.
What do the colors on flags usually mean?
Color families often signal a shared history: green-yellow-red are the pan-African colors, red-white-black-green the pan-Arab colors, and the off-center Nordic cross links Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland. Spotting these groups makes flags much easier to memorize.
How many national flags are there in the world?
The UN has 193 member states, plus 2 observer states (Vatican City and Palestine), so about 195 flags is the usual answer — more if you count territories and partially recognized states, each with distinctive flags of their own.
Which national flags are almost identical?
Several famous pairs: Chad and Romania differ only in a barely visible shade of blue; Indonesia and Monaco share the same red-white design with different proportions; the Netherlands and Luxembourg differ mainly in the blue stripe's brightness. Ireland and Côte d'Ivoire are mirror images. These pairs are the ultimate flag-quiz trap.
What is the oldest national flag still in use?
Denmark's Dannebrog — a white Nordic cross on red — is usually credited as the oldest continuously used national flag, with roots going back to the 13th century. Legend says it fell from the sky during a battle in 1219. Its cross design later inspired the flags of all the other Nordic countries.
