Why is practicing with a metronome so important?
Timing is the skill listeners notice first — a simple part played perfectly in time sounds better than a hard part that drifts. A metronome exposes exactly where you rush or drag, which your own ear tends to forgive. Practicing against a steady click is how that honest feedback becomes internal.
What tempo should I set when learning something new?
Slower than feels necessary — pick a tempo where you can play the passage cleanly several times in a row, even if that's half the target speed. Then raise the BPM in small steps, dropping back whenever mistakes creep in. If you're copying a song, the tap tempo feature will tell you its BPM so you know your goal.
What's the difference between perfect pitch and relative pitch?
Perfect (absolute) pitch is naming a note from sound alone, with no reference — hear a tone, say "that's an A". Relative pitch is judging notes by their distance from a reference: hearing that two notes are a fifth apart. Musicians rely on relative pitch daily; perfect pitch is the rarer party trick our test measures.
Can adults still train their ear?
Relative pitch — the genuinely useful skill — is trainable at any age, and interval recognition improves steadily with practice. True perfect pitch is widely believed to develop mainly in early childhood, and adults rarely acquire it fully. So don't be discouraged by a low pitch test score: repeat attempts usually climb, and relative skills matter more anyway.
What is the tone generator useful for?
Tuning instruments to a reference pitch, checking whether speakers or headphones reproduce low and high frequencies, hunting down rattles that only buzz at certain frequencies, and simply exploring how the 20 Hz–20 kHz range sounds. It's a curiosity and utility tool — not a substitute for a professional hearing exam.

Browsers block audio until you interact with the page, so every tool stays silent until you press its start or play button — that's a browser rule, not a bug. If there's still no sound after pressing play, check that your device isn't in silent mode, the volume is up, and Bluetooth audio isn't routed to another device.
